ReBranding Myself?

I hate to say it, but I am experimenting with rebranding Curtis Collins Design. I was told recently that my own logo is not my strongest brand in my portfolio and it should be. So I decided to try to create a brand that is more, well, me. My own signature is something I spent hundreds of hours perfecting for years. So why didn't I try to make that my personal identity before? Nothing says Curtis more then my own signature. It's fun, sophisticated, AND sexy!

Anyway, let me know what you think. I am still not sold on the idea. I do like my current brand, but maybe I do need to change it before I make my portfolio official. Ideas and thoughts are GREATLY appreciated.

(UPDATED with color options and slight modifications on the logo)

  1. I think the blue is very distinctive of your personal style and design. However, it does seem a little predictable. I might take is a little more green? and less straight cyan. The make itself is strong but the accompanying text doesn't seem to fit. Your name has lots of thicks and thins with its own style. I can tell it designed letter for letter and as a whole. Where as the text is simply there. In truth it is almost distracting. I would look at other fonts to start with. Also I don't think you need the "curtis collins" part. Logistically speaking, most people are going to see your make when the meed you, on a business card, or on a letterhead. All of these places either contain you and therefore your name, or have it written on it. Consequently, I don't think it needs to be included. I would try writing "design" the same way as your name and see if they fit better together. I might also try just matching "design" to the mark in another font.

I hope this is helpful. Also It might be nice to see your old logo to compare it to. That way you could really see if it is stronger. I think you are heading in the right direction. Keep working on it will come to you.

  2. I did try it with just "design" but was having issues tying it together. Ideally, I would just like to leave the Curtis with nothing attached. But I felt maybe that was too broad. I do need to try different fonts. This was only like the 10th try. haha. I think I just gave up because I simply hate the idea of having a subtitle (wrong choice of word, but I have been working all day. Give me a break). Thanks for the tips though Ashley! You are always so helpful.

  4. Is it bad to say I like your first mark? The one from last year with the two "C's" strategically placed to look like a POWER button? I felt that was something to be proud of. Very unique too.

  6. I think this mark is really nice.

Something with the top of the C bothers me. I'm not sure if it's the angle of the edge (the one that hangs down over the "u") - whoa this is hard to explain - or if it's that I wish it mimicked the bottom part of the "s" better... or made a stronger ellipse shape. Whatever the case, I would take a look at all your straight edges... they seem inconsistently blunt.

It's a really fun design... and when I look at it, I think... this guy is creative. :)
